CÉAD MÍLE FÁILTE
With roots reaching back to the Townland of Shinan in County Cavan, Ireland, this family descends from James Mooney, born circa 1800. In search of a better life, he journeyed across the Irish Sea to Glasgow, Scotland, in 1826, finding work in the linen mills. While there, he married Mary Anne Mitchell in 1831. Around 1833 they traveled to St. Sylvestre, Lotbiniere County, QC, farming for a living. They eventually settled on a larger, more productive farm in Inverness, Megantic County, QC. Their son, David, brought his family to Saginaw, MI, in 1879, starting the American chapter of our history. Scattered now to the four winds, their many descendants reunite regularly via this webpage.
